Congratulations to the following students who auditioned and were accepted as members of the Kentucky Music Educators Association [KMEA] 3rd District Band: Katyln Clark, Hannah Crawford, Britny Cropper, Emily Crutchfield, Jacob Heltsley, Jordan Imlay, Nolan Kutzman, Annie Lewis, Megan Lindsay & Holly Looper. Jordan Imlay and Britny Cropper also qualified to audition for the KMEA All-State Band which will take place in December.

 

Congratulations to Cross Country Coach Greg Howard recently named Area 2 Boy’s High School Cross Country Coach of the Year! Area 2 includes schools from the following counties: Daviess, Grayson, Warren, Allen, Barren, Edmonson, Muhlenberg, Butler, and Logan.

 

Congratulations to the LCHS Boys’ Cross Country Team on winning the Regional IAA Championship. They defeated regional powerhouse Webster County by 32 points as they dominated from the first mile. The following are IAA Regional Champions: Jacob Speck, Evan Harris, Barrett Rogers, Noah Thomas, Colton Spencer, Stefan Bieshuevel, Kaleb O’Dell, Austin Rouse, Corey Ford, and Regional Champion– Sye Head. For the girls’ team Claire Hopkins also qualified for state. At state competition the team finished in 5th place.

 

Casey Jaynes, principal of LCHS, has announced the hiring of Mike Crawford as the school’s new softball coach. Crawford is in his fifth year at the school. Since arriving at the school he has worked with the Cougar football team as an asst. coach.  Girls interested in playing softball should contact Coach Crawford ASAP.

 

LCHS concluded its 2011 Football campaign October 28 defeating local rival Russellville 32-21 at the Clash of the Cats! With the victory, the Cougars were able to return home with the Barrett-Eans Trophy and finish the season at 4-6. Congratulations team on a great year!

 

The 2011-12 slate of Student Government Association officers has been announced and are as follows:

                 Senior: Meg Brown

                 Junior: Christina Link

                 Sophomore: Lexi Croft

                 Freshmen: Savannah Rogers

 

ACT prep workshops will be held on the following dates:

                 English: November 2 –Mrs. Hartley

                 Math: November 09– Mr. Kessler

                 Reading: November 16– Mrs. Toon

                 Science: November 30– Mrs. Kelley

Workshops will last for one hour and begin at 3:15. For additional information contact the session’s reviewer.

 

The LCHS JROTC went to Austin Peay University on October 22nd and competed with 36 other JROTC teams from three states in the Governor’s Guard Fall Raider Challenge. Out of the six events at the competition, the LCHS Cougar Battalion scored two second-place finishes. Cadet Commander Sergeant Major Ben Bowman, Raider Alpha Team Commander, summed-up the day, “We did an excellent job...we went to take care of business and we did...we worked, pushed and succeeded together.”

 

Logan County High School and the National Center for Education an the Economy (NCEE) sponsored an information session on the “Excellence of All” program, formally known as the Board Examination System on October 20. NCEE representatives David Osborne- State Engagement Manager, Jason Dougal- COO, and James Williams- Engagement Manager discussed the program with parents, students, and the community the aspects and the purpose of the pilot program, the benefits that LCHS students will receive from the program, and the possible outcomes for our freshmen. LCHS senior, Barrett Rogers was one of 33 KY students selected to participate in this year’s Drive to Stay Alive Academy. His competition and thoughts of the Academy were a featured story on a recent WBKO news program. To view this story click here.

 

LCHS juniors, Brittany Harper and Claire Hopkins are collecting pull tabs from soft drink and soup cans in an effort to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Nashville. By collecting tabs, it is hoped thousands of dollars can be raised to help support the families of seriously ill and/or injured children. It takes approximately 1,200 tabs to make one pound. Collection centers are located throughout the LCHS campus.

 

The Freshman Advisory Council has been announced and are as follows: Alyssa Bailey, Brittany Barton, Cookie Barrow, Brittany Blackford, Ashley Brinkley, Dustin Carver, Sarah Edgar, Victoria Gipson, Andrew Gregory, Kayla Hazel, Matthew Hughes, Chandler Larson, Tori Mills, Sydney Mimms, Sierra Morris, Anthony Oberhausen, Brielle Powell, Caleb Phillips and Connor Williams.

 

Seasonal sports’ passes are available in the school’s front office. Adult passes are $30, student passes $20.

 

Any LCHS Junior is eligible to win a $500 scholarship and photo shoot at LCHS through “Promote Your School” contest, sponsored by the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority. Participants must submit a 200 word essay about the  biggest challenge facing high school students. For more information, see one of the counselors or visit the kheaa.com website.

 

The LCHS 2011-2012 basketball cheerleaders have been announced and are as follows: Jaylin Belcher, Christiana Caffee, Suezanna Caffee, Kelsey Coleman, Megan Heffelfinger, Maggie Hines, Kaitlyn Jernigan, Paige Jones, Tori Lynch, Brenna Murphy, Cassidy Price, Gracie Porter, Andrea Robinson, Johtaya Sydnor, Taylor Wilkins & Bree Wilson.

 

Anyone caught texting while driving and/or anyone under 18 years caught using a cell phone while driving is liable for fines of $25 on a first offense and $50 on subsequent offenses, plus court costs.

Congratulations to sophomores Garrett Abbott and Jessie Long, the latest Attendance for Academic Success contest winners. AAS is a program that recognizes students with perfect attendance over a specified period of time and is sponsored by the school’s Youth Services Center– Jama Richardson director.

LCHS Men’s Soccer Team

 is currently selling stadium chairs to raise money for its inaugural season. The seats are being sold for $50 each or if more than one is ordered they are $45. Orders can be placed with any of the team members or at the high school.
